Lake Weed Sub Committee Established
Due to the widespread concern about ongoing lakeweed growth in the lake, LRCA committee have co-opted a subcommittee to represent the prime bays and communities around the lake. This will provide a lake wide picture of the location and extent of weed problems and enable LRCA to cooperate with organisations like the Water Quality Society and TALT to lobby LINZ with fact-based information to seek more funding to better control the weed.
The subcommittee’s foundation meeting has been held. We will be the posting interesting information about the different types of weed, trials of an alternative chemical called Endothall etc. and the progress this sub committee makes.
This initiative coincides with LINZ and Te Arawa Lakes Trust (TALT) agreeing that TALT will take over management of the spray programme, with funding remaining with LINZ. The autumn spray programme with the usual Diquat gel is now complete, the biggest ever according to (Land Information NZ) LINZ.
