Initial reports from independent experts suggest that the amount of Rotorua water entering Rotoiti via holes & the chance of major failure of the wall has been underestimated!

LRCA has made submissions to the BoPRC’s Draft Annual Plan looking to ensure that adequate funds are set aside for Ohau Wall and Lake Rotoiti.

The LWQS AGM will be held Monday 1 June 26, (Kings Birthday), 10am to 12.30pm at Mourea. After the meeting there will be an open meeting on the Ohau Wall

Our upcoming AGM will revert to the traditional 2nd January which will be a FRIDAY. The meeting will be held at the Rotoiti Sports & Community Centre.

Te Arawa Lakes Trust as the owner of the lake bed calls for greater recognition of its role as kaitiaki and a more meaningful seat at the decision-making table on the Ohau Wall.

Council eventually agreed that all investigations and trialling options be expedited and options for improving Lake Rotoiti water quality be hastened after community presentation.

LWQS & LRCA, lead by John Gifford, chair of LWQS, presented compelling evidence for action on the Ohau Wall at BoPRC’s Council Meeting.

BoPRC has been reluctant to act on the LWQSC & LRCA's request, that they urgently expedite a long term solution to the walls problems.

As the Wall’s owner, BOPRC is legally obliged to maintain it. Prolonged inaction on the wall break down has put BoPRC in breach of its resource consent.

The Ohau Channel Diversion Wall was meant to last 50 years. Serious corrosion is causing large holes substantially reducing its effectiveness.

The Ohau Channel Diversion Wall was built to effectively protect Lake Rotoiti from the poorer quality nutrient-rich waters of Lake Rotorua.

The BoPRC Is reluctant to act on the LWQSC's request, (supported by LRCA), that they expedite a long term solution to the walls problems.
