31 March 2025
Our Special General Meeting is on Easter Saturday, 19th April 2025 at 10.00am at the Rotoiti Sports Club, Gisborne Point.
The new Incorporated Societies Act 2022 requires organisations such as ours to comply with its more stringent rules and re-register before March 2026 if we wish to remain Incorporated. In addition the Charities Act 2005 was recently updated to modernise and control charity practices by incorporating revised governance and reporting requirements.
LRCA has resolved to continue with its current registration to both bodies.
Amongst other things, these legislative changes necessitate the update and amendment of our Constitution to reflect a number of mandatory rules. Under the updated Charities Act, we will also need to review our governance procedures every three years. These changes are designed to strengthen overall accountability and meet various present day safety and security standards.
We have used MBIE’s online ‘Constitution Builder’ tool to update and revise our existing Constitution, and it has been extensively discussed and now approved by your committee. It has been deemed to meet legal thresholds following independent appraisal.
This proposed Constitution is now available on our website HERE. We invite members to review it in preparation for a Special General Meeting for the express purpose of securing members’ ratification.
From there, the committee will take the necessary steps to re-apply for Incorporation which will require submission of the revised Constitution.
