It is with much sadness that LRCA has learnt of the recent passing of distinguished Ngāti Pikiao kaumatua, Wiremu (Willie) Emery. His tangihanga was held at Taurua Marae, Komuhumuhu (Gisborne Point). Amongst his many appointments and elections as a community leader, Willie served on Te Arawa Lakes Trust and its predecessor as well as numerous local forestry and farm Trusts and Incorporations.
Having been a previous committee member of LRCA, Willie was always very approachable and amenable towards proposals for shared improvements within our lake environments and, as tangata whenua, provided appropriate advice around traditional and cultural protocols. His valued knowledge, experience and forward thinking will be greatly missed. We extend our sincere thoughts and condolences to all of Willie’s whanau in mourning his loss.
