Please Help Us Maintain Our Berms!
In the last newsletter we appealed for interest from residents of Tapuaeharuru Bay and Hinehopu to form a care group for the footpath and roadside berm along that section of State Highway 30.
Tapuaeharuru Marae got involved with this initiative and were successful in securing assistance from the Puwhakamua Trust. We met in early June and spent a very successful morning mowing, trimming, slashing, sweeping and collecting rubbish along the highway.
Very special thanks to Reina and her helpers from Tapuaeharuru Marae, who kept us well fed, to Billie and his team from Puwhakamua Trust for all their hard work and for providing the tools for the job and to the Hinehopu Golf Club for the use of their facilities. It was a great team effort and even now, some three months later, the berm is still looking good!
We would also like to acknowledge Rotorua Lakes Council who, during May, trimmed and tidied the edges of the footpath that runs along the highway from Gisborne Point to Hinehopu. This work made our job much easier to tackle.
With spring and warmer weather on the way, no doubt there will be a time when we will need to revisit this again. If you would like to help, please email lrca@rotoiti.co.nz to register your interest.
