Lake Rotoiti's Beauty is at Serious Risk

Visitors travel from all over New Zealand to enjoy Lake Rotoiti. Jeopardising Rotoiti water quality puts these benefits at serious risk!

Visitors travel from all over New Zealand to enjoy Lake Rotoiti, bringing significant economic benefits to the region. As the lake becomes polluted, we are losing tourism revenue.

BOPRC must take immediate action to prevent ongoing degradation and restore the water quality of Lake Rotoiti.

It can do this by fixing the Ohau Channel Diversion Wall, which has been leaking nutrient-rich water from Lake Rotorua, unchecked, for more than half a decade.

This issue affects iwi, residents, visitors, and future generations. The longer we wait, the harder it will be to restore what is being lost. Through a technical panel, a system to restore the wall has been agreed and recommended to BOPRC as the preferred solution to meet its original 50-year lifespan. BoPRC cannot be allowed to delay any longer.
