Lake Levels Update August 2024

In contrast to recent years, 2024 to date has seen Rotoiti lake levels stabilised for the most part within the operating range of RL279.10 – 279.20 metres above Moturiki Datum. This has been facilitated by La Niña weather patterns through the early part of the year bringing extended dry periods and few significant rainfall events. Rainfall to date is 775mm compared with 1560mm for the same period last year.

See lake level graph here.

The Okere Gates have thus been maintained almost continuously within flow rates of 13-26 cumecs which has allowed the commercial rafting community to operate unhindered for all but 8 days since January 2nd.

The annual meeting of the Rotorua Te Arawa Lakes Operations Liaison Group (RTALOLG) of which LRCA is a leading member was held in June 2024. Bay of Plenty Regional Council’s 2023/24 Annual Report to the Group can be viewed HERE.
