Tests show the algal bloom has subsided and the health warning for Lake Rotorua and the Ōhau Channel has now been lifted by the local Medical Officer of Health.

Toxic Algae Bloom Threatens Lake

BoPRC advise that there is a potentially toxic algae bloom in Lake Rotorua and Ohau Channel and advises people to avoid fishing for trout or swimming near the affected locations.

Taking Taonga Species Controlled

New bylaws require permit for anyone taking taonga species which include tuna, īnanga, kākahi, kōaro, kōura and mōrihana. Scuba diving for koura now illegal.
