It’s been a frustrating year of poor water quality for some residents on our lake with weed spraying in some areas was cancelled.

Te Arawa Lakes Trust to trial the spraying of invasive weed earlier than usual, with a September application at Okawa Bay planned.

Due to widespread concern about lake weed growth in the lake, LRCA have co-opted a subcommittee to represent prime bays around the lake.

BoPRC advises residents that the weed wash up at Okawa Bay is really a private amenity issue which they would need to address themselves.

The prime reason why an area or weed is excluded from a spray program is because its is “dirty” severely reducing the impact of spraying.

Te Waiiti Point, Gisborne Point, Te Ruato Bay, Hauparu Bay & Ōkahutoroa Bay/Cherry Bay sprayed 18th November. 24 hr stand down recommended.

Diquat spraying is scheduled to be carried out from Monday 8th November and will continue intermittently until Friday 10th December 2021.

New weed cordons at Otaramarae to reduce the risk of aquatic plant pests spreading when boaties don’t clean their vessels and trailers.
